Neighbors Receive Clothes and Household Items at Family Promise of Philadelphia's "Winter is Coming Giveaway" in Mt. Airy

More than 70 families received free socks, shoes, bedding, coats, kids' clothing, and household items ahead of the cold months, with support from Bombas, Casper, Glanzmann Subaru, and WSFS Bank volunteers.
PHILADELPHIA, PA (Mt. Airy) – Families lined up along Germantown Avenue for Family Promise of Philadelphia’s (FPP) Winter Giveaway event. On Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. FPP hosted its "Winter is Coming Giveaway" on the front lawn of its Mt. Airy office at 7047 Germantown Ave. Everything was free, and no one had to prove need or qualify to take part. FPP held the Giveaway to prepare families for the upcoming cold weather months.
In all, 77 households, representing 309 individuals including 180 children, took home more than 3,577 items. The giveaway included:
2,944 pairs of Bombas socks
125 pairs of shoes
49 pillows and mattress toppers
400+ pieces of adult clothing (warm weather items) and children’s clothes
120 blankets and sets of sheets and pillowcases
The lawn was set up with essentials for the season ahead. Community members could also choose from kids' clothes (sizes for ages two through 20), sheets in every bed size, curtains, place mats, couch and throw pillows and baby blankets. Many of the people who came were families with young children.
The giveaway was made possible by community partners. Sneakers came through a partnership with Glanzmann Subaru as part of the Subaru Loves to Help initiative. Casper Sleep Inc. store in King of Prussia, a longtime Family Promise of Philadelphia partner, supplied the pillows and mattress toppers, a continuation of the company's work to help families get a good night's sleep.
A longstanding partnership with Bombas made packs of ankle and calf-length socks (25 pairs per pack) available to community members. Bombas donates 10,000 socks each year to FPP.
Volunteers also made the day run. Five employees from WSFS Bank, Hank McCue, Mark Bradford, Melvin Heyward, Ron Dutton and Ciera Dempsey, spent the day at the event as part of the bank's We Stand for Service Day, contributing roughly 20 volunteer hours.

WSFS team that volunteered with FPP's 2026 "Winter is Coming" Giveaway for WSFS's annual day of service outside the Day Center.
Dempsey organized the team's participation. Each guest checked in with a volunteer, who recorded contact information and the items they took. That record helps Family Promise stay in touch with neighbors and see what the community needs most. WSFS volunteers also helped with set-up and inventory transport.
"Our Winter is Coming Giveaway accomplished what FPP set out to do,” said Sama Alghali, Director of Family Services. “We gave material goods and pertinent items to families who need it most,” she concluded.
