For more than eight years, the Casper Sleep Inc. store at the King of Prussia Mall has helped housing insecure families in our community get something most of us take for granted: a good night’s sleep.
Each quarter, Casper gives new mattresses, pillows, and bedding that would otherwise be discarded to FPP. “We try really hard to donate these products rather than put them in a landfill,” said store managers Scott Sedia and Jammal Ransom.
This past winter alone, their team donated 59 pillows and two queen sized mattresses. So far this spring, an additional 30 families have received brand-new pillows, mattress pads, and sheets.
These items go directly into our shelter and the homes of families we serve. Two of our shelter families are now sleeping on new mattresses and many more are sleeping better with fresh bedding.
For Sedia and Ransom, this partnership is about the physical and mental health of housing insecure families.
“A good night's sleep helps with stress, it’s good for the immune system and for the body,” Sedia said. “If someone is in need of a mattress and we have one to give them, why not do that?”
For families struggling to keep a roof over their head, a good night’s sleep should not be underestimated. Reducing stress and improving overall health gives parents and children the energy they need to focus on work, school, and the long process of achieving housing sustainability.
While Casper donates to many causes, including to those displaced by last year’s wildfires in Los Angeles, Sedia and Ransom note, “Here at our store, we pretty much just work with FPP.”
“We both live in Philadelphia,” they shared. “We’re aware of the homeless population and how challenging it must be for them to piece their lives back together. It’s nice to have a good product to offer them.”
Ending family homelessness takes everyone helping in whatever capacity they can. The generosity of Sedia, Ransom, and the entire Casper Team shows how businesses can make a meaningful impact on their community.
Because of their partnership, dozens of Philadelphia families are sleeping better tonight.
