Family Promise of Philadelphia Hosts 2026 ThanksKitchen Giveaway, Helping Families Prepare a Thanksgiving Meal of Their Own

Free kitchenware, pantry staples, and turkeys for registered families at the Mt. Airy Day Center on Monday, November 23, to kick off National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
Family Promise of Philadelphia (FPP) will host its 2026 ThanksKitchen Giveaway on Monday, November 23, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at its Mt. Airy Day Center, 7047 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19119. Held three days before Thanksgiving, the event gives families with children free dishes, pots and pans, serving utensils, glassware and non-perishable foods so they can cook and share a holiday meal that feels like their own.
For many families, a big Thanksgiving dinner is easy to take for granted. For families facing housing insecurity, it can feel out of reach. ThanksKitchen is FPP’s way of making sure this holiday time is accessible to all, so that every family has the chance to gather around a table, share a meal and make memories together.

Volunteer With Us
FPP is also seeking volunteers to work shifts between 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on November 23. Volunteers can choose between two kinds of roles:
Set-up and breakdown (opening and closing shifts): prepare the Day Center before families arrive and clean up and pack down at the end of the day.
Event day support: greet and sign in families, accompany families while they shop, and document the items distributed.
Parking is provided for volunteers. Sign up for a shift here.
“Thanksgiving week is about family and community, and this event is a chance to show up for neighbors,” said Soleil Gohouré, Communications and Outreach VISTA at FPP. “We’d love for people to join us, whether that means giving a shift, running a drive, or spreading the word.”
Why It Matters: Hunger, Homelessness, and the Holidays
The ThanksKitchen Giveaway takes place during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness month in November, and on National hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. FPP’s mission of helping families with children stay in their homes doesn’t pause for the holidays. It extends to the everyday and the extraordinary needs of families: the diapers, the meals, and, this time of year, the pots, plates and turkey that turn a table into a Thanksgiving.
